The HSE National Wound Management Guidelines 2018

The HSE have launched new national guideline for wound management which are designed to support the standardisation of care and encourage best clinical practice at primary, secondary and tertiary levels throughout Ireland.

The guideline acknowledges the essential role that Nutrition plays in wound healing, and provides a series of recommendations on nutritional screening, assessment and intervention as an integral element of wound management. The guideline includes a Grade A evidence-based recommendation to provide at least 8 weeks of supplementation with high protein, arginine and micronutrients for adults who are malnourished with a pressure ulcer Category/Stage III or IV or multiple ulcers.
