The state-of-the-art facility employs over 300 people working across development and manufacturing. It's a development centre for high quality medical nutrition to meet a huge variety of needs - from carefully controlled small volumes for UK and Ireland patients, to large orders for export to nearly 50 countries.
Our research reveals practical solutions to nutritional challenges in healthcare, making a real difference to patients' lives in the process. Nutricia Liverpool develops and manufactures medical nutrition for all kinds of patients at all stages of life, with a focus on early life nutrition and specialised products for metabolic disorders.
As well as the large quantities we manufacture and ship all the time, we’re also able to help patients in a big way, with smaller quantities. In the past we have carried on making small batches of certain products in previously discontinued formats, specifically for a few patients who find that the old format works best for them, and still want to use it. With our own manufacturing facility close at hand, we can do even more to help HCPs provide the best possible tailored foods for special medical purposes for patients.
Thanks to strong links to our innovation centre in the Netherlands, Nutricia Liverpool has a dedicated team who design and develop new products for our future pipeline. Our innovations rely on breakthrough research in nutrition and disease management, with evidence-backed nutritional products delivering real health benefits.
The Danone Macroom supply point is the largest infant milk spray-drying facility in the Danone network and the Danone Wexford supply point is the largest finished goods packaging supply point in Danone. 70% of Danone’s European spray-drying capacity and 40% of its European finished goods packaging capacity is located in Ireland. These supply points export products across the world.
Both sites are verified members of Origin Green, the only global food and drink sustainability program uniting Government, food producers, and the private sector. Our Wexford site reduced emissions by 82% between 2011-2021, primarily by installing a biomass boiler powered by locally sourced sustainable wood fuels. Macroom introduced an innovative energy-recovery system, which reduced energy use by 3,300 tonnes of CO2 in 2020.
The supply points employ almost 600 people and work closely with the local communities. Danone has supported local events such as the Macroom Food Festival, the Wexford Maritime Festival and Wexford Opera for many years, and the supply points run a community support initiative providing donations to local charities, sports clubs, and community groups.
